Pulp

PPI Department focuses on the Paper & Board Production Packaging Industry and also has extended her activities to similar applications in other process industries. In line with the Company’s mission, IMCM aims to be the “most sought after” supplier of Production Materials and Investment Equipment to the Paper & Board Production Industry. Similar to the other Departments of Unirep, IMCM incorporates a diverse, but related and complimentary range of products required by the Paper & Board Production Industry. The product range consist of the primary raw material of the Industry; which is pulp, various machinery and capital equipment and chemicals. In priority for the paper-making chemicals with paper industry applications, as well as those used in general industrial applications, the Department employs Unirep’s warehousing and logistics capabilities. This in return provides the ability for the Department to engage in “long term supply contracts”, afford just-in-time services to her customers, as well as regular and predictable marketing possibility for her suppliers.

The Department employs manpower resources with a very high level of experiences in international trading, pulp procurement, as well as profound technical knowledge of the Paper & Board Production Industry.

The Paper & Board Production Industry covers an area among Unirep’s activities, which is unique in terms of the expected future investments. Many of the countries within the Territory, especially Turkey, anticipate leaps in the consumption figures because of the rapid population increase in this area and a very low per capita consumption to begin with. For example; while Turkey ranks 25th in the total paper and board consumption in the world, she is 64th in the per capita consumption ranking. This comparison alone reflects the opportunities, which may arise in the future. Furthermore, almost 45% of the total paper and board consumption of Turkey is covered by the imports, which makes her prospectively attractive for future investments. Unirep’s management feels that it is prudent to take the necessary steps at this stage in enhancing the resources available to this Department, for the purpose of improving her product range and the services provided to customers, as well as to the suppliers.

Products

The products being handled can be described in three categories:

1. Machinery and Equipment

The Department has “exclusive” sales agreements with major suppliers of Paper, Board and Pulp making equipments, as well as suppliers of converting and auxiliary equipment.

2. Paper Making Pulp

Through “exclusive” and “non-exclusive” sales arrangements with a number of suppliers, Unirep’s IMCM Department is one of the main suppliers of paper making pulp to the Industry within Unirep’s Territory. The supplies come from a range of traditional pulp producing regions of the world such as; Scandinavia, North/South America and Iberia. The pulp grades supplied are; Bleached and Unbleached Softwood Kraft grades (UKP, BSKP), Bleached Hardwood Kraft grades (BHKP), as well as Bleached Eucalyptus Kraft Pulp (BEKP). Unirep has plans to commence the operation of a ‘Pulp Terminal’ at her own premises located in the Free Trade Zone of Gemlik. The aim of this operation will be to optimize the long delivery and transit times associated with the pulp shipments and build a platform to commence regular supply relations with the customers in the Territory.

3. Consumables

Although Unirep supplies a limited range of chemicals used in the production of Pulp and Paper presently, new studies are underway to improve the product range and to establish warehousing/distribution schemes to provide better services to the end-users. It is expected that the positive results will not be hard-coming because of the already existing market penetration, as well as the ‘in house’ experience in logistics and distribution.
